5. Astrid

Astrid Nielsen (played by Sara Mortensen) is a young woman with Asperger's syndrome and an incredible memory who works in the judicial police library. When Commander Coste (played by Lola Dewaere) discovers Astrid’s insights can he helpful in the field, they begin to examine more complex crime scenes.

DI Annika Strandhed (played by Nicola Walker) heads up a new Marine Homicide Unit (MHU) in Glasgow while raising a teenage daughter, and often breaks the fourth wall to tell us her insights.

3. Miss Scarlet & the Duke

In this period piece mystery, Miss Scarlet (played by Kate Phillips) proves her skills as an investigator despite not being taken seriously due to her gender. With the occasional help from a childhood friend at Scotland Yard, William 'The Duke' Wellington (played by Stuart Martin), Miss Scarlet solves crimes in Victorian London’s dark underbelly.

2. Magpie Murders

This Masterpiece Mystery based on Anthony Horowitz’s novel follows Editor Susan Ryeland (played by Lesley Manville) as she seeks to find the missing final chapter of her acclaimed author’s mystery novel. As she searches for the pages and the answers to the crime in the manuscript, she gets sucked into a real life murder investigation and imagines what the story detective Atticus Pund (played by Tim McMullan) would make of the clues.

In 1920s Toronto, female private investigator Frankie Drake (played by Lauren Lee Smith) solves many mysteries with her friends and colleagues (played by Chantel Riley, Rebecca Liddiard, and Sharon Matthews.)
