Cozy Mystery TV in 2023 to be Excited About

It’s no mystery that we’ll be watching some cozies on TV in 2023. Here are some new and returning shows that we are looking forward to watching:

10. Beyond Paradise

Series premiere in 2023 on Britbox

This spin-off of Death in Paradise will focus on DI Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) as he investigates crime in a new location, his fiancee’s hometown. We look forward to seeing him in a new setting and meeting a new team of investigators.

9. Murdoch Mysteries

Season 16 continues in January on Acorn

Detective William Murdoch (played by Yannick Bisson) continues to solve mysteries at the turn of the century in Toronto. We are excited to see more of his family life with Dr. Julia Ogden (played by Hélène Joy) and the shenanigans of constables.

(And we’ll be keeping an eye out for the promised tween time-traveling spin-off mystery series Macy Murdoch that is in production!)

8. Mrs Sidhu Investigates

Series premiere in May 2023 on Acorn

A TV version of the BBC Radio 4 Mystery Series will be premiering this year and follows a crime-solving Indian chef and caterer named Mrs. Sidhu (played by Meera Syal.) It sounds comedic and delightful, and we can’t wait to check it out.

7. Harry Wild

Season 2 premieres in spring of 2023 on Acorn

We’re thrilled to see Jane Seymour return as retired literary professor Harry Wild in a new season and can’t wait to see her solve more literary-inspired crimes with her protege Fergus Reid (played by Rohan Nedd.)

6. Poker Face

Series premiere January 26th on Peacock

After Rian Johnson’s success with Knives Out and Glass Onion, we are thrilled to watch the premiere of his mystery series starring Natasha Lyonne as a character who can tell when people are lying and comes across strange crimes on her road trip travels.

5. Miss Scarlet and the Duke

Season 3 premieres in January on PBS Passport

This popular period piece PBS mystery returns for season 3, and focuses on a female detective (played by Kate Phillips) and Scotland Yard Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington (played by Stuart Martin.)

4. The Madame Blanc Mysteries

Available on Acorn in the US sometime in 2023

January 5th in the UK on Channel 5

A Christmas special has already premiered and we are excited to see the rest of Season 2! After her husband’s killer raised the stakes at the end of season 1, we are excited to see what this British antiques expert, Mrs. White (played by Sally Lindsay), plans to do next to find justice for him while solving other mysteries that pop up in the South of France.

3. Father Brown

Season 10 premieres on Britbox in the US in “early 2023”

January 6th on BBC One in the UK

It’s always a delight to watch this inquisitive bicycle-riding sleuth (played by Mark Williams) and we are glad he is back solving crimes and saving souls in the 1950s English town of Kembleford.

2. Only Murders in the Building

Season 3 premieres on Hulu in the summer of 2023

This cinematic and humorous series follows amateur sleuths and podcasters (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez) as they investigate and broadcast theories about murders in their NYC building. After the cliffhanger of a new murder on stage in the season 2 tag, we are excited to see their new adventure.

  1. Agatha Raisin

Season 5 will be available on Acorn on February 20th, 2023

We love watching former PR guru turned sleuth, Agatha Raisin (played by Ashley Jensen), and her quirky friends investigate “murrrder” in the English Cotswolds and after Toni’s surprise proposal, we hope this season might hold a wedding that actually gets to the “I do”s!

What other cozy mystery series are coming out in 2023 that we should be excited for?
