Amazing Acorn Mysteries

These are our favorite cosy mysteries currently available on the streaming service Acorn:

10. Midsomer Murders

This long-running series (1997 - present) follows DCI Barnaby (John Nettles and Neil Dudgeon) and a young sergeant as they investigate murders in Midsomer County in England.

9. My Life is Murder

This series (2019 - present) follows retired detective Alexa Crowe (played by Lucy Lawless) who can’t seem to stop solving mysteries with her tech savvy friend Madison (played by Ebony Vagulans.)

8. Harry Wild

This series (2022 - present) follows recently retired literary professor Harry Wild (played by Jane Seymour) who begins investigating murder cases with a student (played by Rohan Nedd), much to the annoyance of her police detective son (played by Kevin Ryan.)

7. Mr & Mrs Murder

This series (2013) follows a married couple (Kat Stewart and Shaun Micallef) who run an industrial cleaning company that cleans up crime scenes and who have a knack for solving complex mysteries.

6. Recipes for Love and Murder

This series (2022 - present) series follows “Tannie” Maria (played by Maria Doyle Kennedy), a recipe writer suddenly turned advice columnist, living in Karoo, South Africa with a secret. When a woman who wrote for advice for leaving an abusive relationship is murdered, Maria wants to find out what really happened and investigates with the help of her young reporter colleague, Jessie September (played by Kylie Fisher.)

5. The Madame Blanc Mysteries

In this (2021 - present) series, antiques expert Mrs. White (played by Sally Lindsay) moves from England to France to look into her husband’s suspicious death. While there she befriends a local taxi driver (played by Steve Edge) and solves other mysteries.

4. Queens of Mystery

Quirky and delightful, this (2019 - present) series follows young detective Matilda Stone (Olivia Vinall and Florence Hall) who is assigned to her hometown of Wildemarsh where her three mystery writer aunts (Julie Graham, Sarah Woodward, and Siobhan Redmond) live and who insist on helping her with her cases.

3. Murdoch Mysteries

At the turn of the century, straight-laced Detective Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) uses the latest forensic techniques of the day to solve murders while falling for charming coroner Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy) in this (2008 - present) series.

2. Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Set in 1920s Australia, this (2012 - 2015) series follows lady detective Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis) as she uses her quick wit and pearl-handled pistol to fight injustice.

  1. Agatha Raisin

Based on the books by M. C. Beaton, this series of movies and shows (2014 - present) follows London PR guru, Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen), as she fulfills a dream of retiring to the English countryside. However, once there, Agatha discovers she has a real knack for solving murders.
