Delectable Drinks (for detectives)

Some cozy mysteries feature businesses that sell drinks that sound truly delicious. Here are some places that we would love to visit and order a cup, even if it means we might have to step over a dead body to do so:

1. Sun, Sand and Tea

Iced tea shop and cafe from the Seaside Cafe Mysteries by Bree Baker

There is an immense variety of flavored tea at this boardwalk cafe and every one of them sounds divine. There are recipes included so you could replicate the perfect beachy drink. You might have more time to relax and enjoy your tea than shop-owner Everly who has to use her free time to solve murders!

2. Ground Rules

The coffee cart from A Ground Rules Mystery series by Emmeline Duncan

This Portland-based coffee cart has multiple options that would make any coffee lover’s mouth water. Sage and her business partner Harley roast their own beans and create coffee-inspired cocktails too. The book includes recipes for specialty coffees, cold brews, food and cocktails. You might enjoy the caffeine burst and Sage will need it if it she’s going to catch killers and avoid her con artist mother’s grasp.

3. Vino Valentine

The wine shop from A Colorado Wine Shop Mystery by Kate Lansing

Parker Valentine’s wines that she creates sound as delightful as the local names that she gives to them. We wish we could visit the shop for a wine-tasting, even if there is a chance that there will be a murder to solve! Since we can’t go there, we will have to settle for the recipes and wine pairing suggestions that accompany the book.

4. Smythe Orchards

The cider shop and orchard from A Cider Shop Mystery series by Julie Anne Lindsey

The classic and “gourmet” variations of apple ciders that Winnie created sound delicious, and we’re amazed that she has time to create these flavors while saving the family business, raising kittens, and catching killers. While they would be the perfect autumn drink - they sound so good, I’d love to have some of these ciders all year round!

5. Shimmy and Shake Shop

The milkshake shop from A Shake Shop Mystery by Dana Mentink

These “Freakshakes” milkshakes that Trinidad serves up in Upper Sprocket, Oregon sound decadently delicious. There are a multitude of flavors and the holidays themed ones sound especially amazing. We’d love to visit Trinidad’s business to try these delicious drinks and to encourage her with her sleuthing and surviving her ex-husband’s drama.

6. Village Blend

The coffee shop in A Coffeehouse Mystery series by Cleo Coyle

This historic coffeehouse in New York's Greenwich Village has its share of eclectic customers and staff that make it sound like a fun place to visit.. We’re impressed by Clare Cosi’s drink menu and are grateful that the books contain a plethora of recipes / tips for coffee and treats. We hope that Clare doesn’t get in over her head on any investigations so that she can continue to create amazing concoctions.

7. The various locales from Murder By the Glass

The multiple locations from the anthology book Murder by the Glass: Cocktail Mysteries

This anthology includes mysteries by Allie Marie, Betsy Ashton, Frances Aylor, Mary Dutta, Eleanor Cawood Jones, Diane Fanning, Debra H. Goldstein, Libby Hall, Maria Hudgins, Teresa Inge, Maggie King, Kristin Kisska, Allie Marie, K. L. Murphy, Alan Orloff, Josh Pachter, Shawn Reilly Simmons and Heather Weidner, and provides a multitude of delicious (and sometimes deadly) drinks.
