What is a Cozy Mystery?

Cozy Mystery:

A cozy mystery transports the reader to a place they wish they could visit. The towns are picturesque, the neighbors are friendly, every small business seems to thrive. Everyone in town seems to have a fantastic life. Unless they wind up dead.

Cozies don’t rely on shock and gore. Instead they engage readers with entertaining and clever stories of murder and intrigue and with puzzles that must be solved. Most stories feature a fabulous female sleuth, a love interest (or two) and an ensemble of heartwarming (and often very quirky) side characters.

CozyCrime readers are simultaneously looking for a warm and inviting place to visit and the chance to catch the bad guy. They crave ways to use their brains, hearts and imaginations. They find joy in their hero’s successes and thrill of the chase. That’s what makes this community so special.

(cozies, cosy mystery, cosies) a subgenre of crime fiction that models the Golden Age of Detectives. Hallmarks of a cozy are limited sex and violence, amateur sleuth detectives, and socially intimate communities.
