  1. In Cold Chamomile

A Tea and a Read Mystery #3 by Joy Avon

Description:

Callie Aspen is looking forward to the Valentine's Day this year because Book Tea is serving at an exciting event at Haywood Hall and she has the local detective as a sweetheart. However, when a murder occurs at the hall and someone from her great-aunt Iphy's past is accused of the crime, Callie finds herself a part of the investigation and putting her relationship at risk.

Why We Love It:

We love that there are consequences to this amateur detective's actions, but that it's not cringe-worthy. Book Tea sounds like a place we would love to visit, and so does Haywood Hall (despite the murder.) The characters pop off the page and we feels Callie's struggle to do what's right while trying to balance loyalites between the people she loves most. There are enough suspects to keep us guessing and side plots to make us want to pick up the next book in the series.

2. A Victim at Valentine’s

A Secret Bookcase Mystery Book #5 by Ellie Alexander

Description:

In Redwood Grove, Annie Murray’s Valentine’s Day takes a dark turn when a pillar in the community is found dead at her Agatha Christie-inspired bookshop. As she helps the investigation, Annie uncovers several suspects with plausible motives, from a psychic to a rival bookseller. Suspecting connections to her best friend’s decade-old death, Annie must solve the case and stop a killer before her own romantic plans are permanently derailed.

Why We Love It:

We always love seeing this mystery-themed bookshop and the inventive events that take place there. We enjoy reading about this Valentine’s Day theme and the potential love in Annie’s life.

3. Death of a Chocoholic

Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mysteries #4 by Lee Hollis

Description:

Hayley Powell’s life as a food and cocktails columnist and mother of two teenagers gets even more complicated at Valentine’s Day when a loud-mouthed aspiring chocolatier suffers a “heart attack” where Hayley suspects foul play. Amid disastrous dates and potentially evil cats, Hayley plays amateur sleuth and seeks justice for her friend.

Why We Love It:

Of course we love all the chocolate found in this book! We also love how much this mystery made us laugh and that it includes recipes for sweets and cocktails that we could try at home.

4. Killing Cupid

A Jaine Austen Mystery #12 by Laura Levine

Description:

Jaine's copywriting work with a local matchmaker winds up as disastrous as the date she is paired with, and when this evil Cupid is murdered, she must find the real killer in order to clear her name.

Why We Love It:

For those who aren't big fans of Valentine's Day, Jaine's running commentary should have you laughing. Her dates go from bad to worse and her string of bad luck follows her throughout the investigation.

5. As Gouda as Dead

Cheese Shop Mystery #6 by Avery Aames

Description:

Charlotte Besette is looking forward to her wedding amid all the romantic Valentine's Day events at her cheese shop and around town, but when a beloved bar owner is murdered on her fiance's farm she'll have to get to the bottom of the mystery before saying "I do."

Why We Love It:

The cheese in this series is described in mouth-watering ways, and we love the theater play subplot and romance of the side characters. We're rooting for Charlotte throughout the book to find a way to solve the crime and make her wedding happen.
